Paleo Power Meals Review – What You Need to Know

Written By: Paul

Last Updated on December 23, 2021

As the popularity of CrossFit has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, it’s no surprise that one chef and dedicated CrossFitter has decided to create a meal delivery program for people like him.

Paleo Power Meals founder Michael DePaolis was inspired to create his company when he noticed the immediate impact of combining a Paleo diet with a CrossFit training regimen.

Amazed at the amount of weight he lost while also building up his strength, he began exploring how he could make that combination work for others.

Because DePaolis is a French-trained chef, he also works to ensure that the food is flavorful and doesn’t make the customer feel as if they are on a specialized meal plan.

As he writes on his website, Paleo Power Meals is more than just a meal service.“It’s not a diet it’s about eating the way we were meant to eat, the way our ancestors ate, from the earth, no hormones, no pesticides, no processing of any kind, Just good clean healthy fresh product.” states the Paleo Power Meals website. “It’s a lifestyle change, a way of life!”

That way of life has struck a chord with CrossFitters and many professional athletes and others have vouched for the service. That's why the service made it into our review of meal prep programs for bodybuilders.

How Paleo Power Meals Works

Because Paleo Power Meals are designed by CrossFitters for CrossFitters, the minds behind the company understand how important it is that your approach to food complements your active lifestyle. That’s why they promise food that’s fresh and protein-packed.

Every Paleo Power Meals entree is designed to be easily heated in the microwave in minutes. Because the company knows that nutrition and your food intake is important to you, each dish is clearly labeled with its nutritional content.

Another great thing about Paleo Power Meals is that your meals can either be shipped directly to your home or to one of the many CrossFit boxes that serve as pickup locations.

Picking your meals up on location is not only convenient, it’s a great way to save on shipping costs.

In order to receive your order, your meal requests have to be received by midnight of the Thursday of the previous week.

What You Can Expect From Your Meal

All of your Paleo Power Meals will arrive fresh and are never frozen.

Because the company follows the Paleo diet guidelines, everything is gluten free and your meals will center on seafood, lean meats, fruits, vegetables and nuts. (It should be noted, that the company is also Keto-friendly. Click to read more.)

The Paleo Power Meals menu contains options for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a select number of side dishes.

While the company does not currently offer snack options, they are working on introducing some in the future.

It’s important to note that Paleo Power Meals does not offer formal meal plans yet, but are working on developing them for the future. Instead, customers can set up a recurring order so that they’ll receive a set number of meals that fit their preferences each week. Essentially, your recurring weekly meal box will contain meals from the a la carte menu that you have selected.

In addition to the a la carte options on the Paleo Power Meals menu, the company also offers a Weekly Meal Special that is added every Monday.

There are currently only two of non-Paleo items on the Paleo Power Meals menu: the Brown Rice with Dried Cranberries and Scallions and the Cajun shrimp skewers. Both Dishes are clearly labeled as non-Paleo items and have their own section on the website.

All of the breakfast items on the menu are egg based, so keep that in mind if eggs aren’t to your taste. These options include omelets, a breakfast scramble and a bacon and egg muffin.

Sample Meals

Here are some of the meals we got to try from the Paleo Power Meals menu.

Customers should note that salads dominate the lunch offerings on the Paleo Power Meals section, but we found them filling and tasty.

  • Chicken and Avocado Caesar Salad: The chicken was nicely grilled and the side of Caesar dressing complemented it nicely.
  • Burger Bowl: It’s everything you love about burgers but without the bread. Savor the grass fed ground beef, sweet potatoes, avocado and applewood smoked bacon that give this burger bowl its flavor.
  • Everything Crusted Salmon: This wild salmon is served over a bed of brussel sprouts, cabbage and kale.
  • Thai Chicken Bowl: As you have seen by now, bowls are a popular them on the Paleo Power Meals menu. This dish adds a little spice to your dinner routine.
  • Chicken and Broccoli over Cauliflower Rice: Here’s the Paleo take on this Chinese takeout staple. Cauliflower takes the place of rice here and we promise that you won’t miss white rice at all.

Delivery

Unlike many Paleo meal kits, Paleo Power Meals delivers to all 50 states.

Customers have two options in terms of getting their Paleo Power Meals. The first is that you can pick them up at one of the many CrossFit boxes that have been designated as pick up sites (this is particularly convenient because you can simply take them home after you finish working out.)

Paleo Power Meals Costs

Paleo Power Meals is great for ordering meals in bulk as it offers a 5% discount for orders over $75, 10% off if you spend $150, and 15% if you go over $250. The meal prices start at $9.95 per portion and can go up to $29.95. If you order over $75, you also receive free shipping.

Food for Thought

Even though everything on the Paleo Power Meals menu follows strict dietary guidelines, we are pleased to report that the company’s portion sizes are quite generous and in some cases we were even able to save leftovers from our meal for the next day.

The company states that it is committed to using natural ingredients and the nutritional information for each of the items we tried was clear and easy to find on each of our packed meals.

We also appreciated that all of the packaging the company uses is either recyclable or biodegradable, showing the company’s commitment to the environment.

We have to admit that the Paleo Power Meals website is not the easiest to navigate and looks and feels like something from the late 1990s (with the occasional grammar and coding mistake to match.)

While the dishes we liked were really great, customers should be aware that the menu is relatively small, which means that the dishes on offer are not as varied as they could be.

Fortunately, Paleo Power Meals has indicated on their site they are planning to expand on their offers and develop a full on meal subscription plan in the future. We also found the company’s customer service department extremely accessible and willing to answer questions and fix any mix ups that may occur.

How to Order

Ordering your Paleo Power Meals is a straightforward process.

First, head to the “Order Meals” tab on the Paleo Power Meals homepage and pick which section you’d like to look at first. (In addition to Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, there are also tabs for the Weekly Special, Snacks and Keto items.)

Once you are in the section you want, simply begin clicking on the items that interest you and begin adding them to your cart.

After selecting all of your items, click on your cart to begin the checkout process. It’s here that you can enter in any coupon or discount codes if you have any.

Then all you’ll have to do is enter your shipping and payment information and your meals will soon be on their way. Orders should be in by Thursday night to receive a shipment for the next week.
